My World In the Second World War...
The posters were everywhere. He would be leaving soon and I wouldn't be able to go a miserable day without Jack. I could just imagine the telegram I would open, second-guessing what it read. If he was dying, I was sure coming along, That's when i saw another poster, only this time one with a woman on the front of it. It didn't even mention the war. It just lay there taped to wall staring at me. It only had a few words across the top. "YOU ARE NEEDED NOW! JOIN THE ARMY NURSE CORPS!" I almost read aloud, that's when I knew. This was my ticket. This was my way into the war, Jack by my side every chance we got. Nineteen years old and willing to give up my life for a man. A man going to war and leaving our engagement ring at home. I never thought twice. I never looked any other way.
My name is Lucy Addison and this is the story of how I became a hero. How I left my normal life behind me and did something amazing. I became a nurse for the Army Nurse Corps. I spent two years in Somerset, England; serving my country's men inside Nissen-Hut station hospital from wounds, illness, infection, and others caused by the wrath of war. This is how I became who I am today, and why I decided to become a nurse for the rest of my life. Helping my country was one of the most rewarding and sentimental things I've ever done. This is my story...
